Outlook 2007 Tool: HTML and CSS Validator set up
I recently installed the Microsoft Outlook 2007 Tool to test and validate some HTML Emails my company sends out on a regular basis. There is a better set of installation instructions than those available on the product page that I followed to install the product.
I downloaded the msi file, installed the software, and followed the instructions to
make the registry changes. Then I opened up Visual Studio 2005, I was all set to
validate the emails so we could let the client know what a wonderfully proactive
company we were, I loaded one of their emails, clicked on the drop down to pick my
target schema... nothing. Just the defaults.
Ok, maybe it needs a reboot, it didn't say it did but maybe it does... So, I
rebooted, opened up VS 2005 again and would you just look at that.... still nothing.
To make a long story short, I poked around a bit and realized I could not find either
the WordHTML.XSD or the WordCSS.XML files that it was supposed to have install.
It turns out that they get installed to the default installation path for Visual
Studio, if for some reason you didn't install VS there then you need to find the
two files and copy them to your installation.
The default path on my machine was:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\Packages\1033\schemas\CSS and
\Packages\schemas\html. The path and everything else was correct for my Visual
Studio install, only the drive was different.
I restarted VS and, sure enough, there it was. So I quickly ran through all the emails we had for the client, and of course they were all fine, at least we can let them know of any problems with future emails.
